The Most Expensive Jewelry Ever To Auction

Hello again, my darlings!

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the shiniest pretties tend to cost the most. Trust me, I wish I had millions of dollars to spend on any piece of glittery jewelry I wanted. Since I don’t, I thought that maybe I’d entertain myself by looking up some of the most expensive jewelry every to auction.

First up, I found the Vivid Pink by Graff. This is a diamond, set in a ring with an emerald cut, which by itself isn’t all that impressive. But the diamond is a whopping 24.78 carats, a gorgeous pink color, and was described by Tamara Cohen of the Daily Mail as “one of the greatest diamonds ever discovered”. When you look at the way it sparkles and shines, it’s no wonder this thing wound up selling for $46 million US! It was the buyer, Laurence Graff of Graff Diamonds who decided to name it Graff Pink, which is the name it goes by most often.

Moving a bit downwards on the price scale, there’s the Burmese Sunrise Ruby. This ruby and diamond ring. It’s a massive ruby, a beautiful rich red color known as pigeon blood, set between two shield shape diamonds. The diamonds are around 2.5 carats, which means that while the ruby is the center piece, the diamonds are absolutely holding their own. And how much would this little beauty set you back? Why, only a mere $30.3 million! As a bit of interesting trivia, this ring was the first colored stone to sell for more than $1 million at auction, and the seller was listed as merely “a lady”. Mysterious!

Next up… the Sweet Josephine, a 16.08 carat pink diamond set in a ring, surrounded by smaller diamonds. If someone had told me that there existed a ring that was diamonds on diamonds, I’d glare at them for gilding the lily (so to speak). However, this ring is genuinely beautiful, and the pink of the center piece keeps the diamond from being overpowering. (Ha! As if that were a thing!) This ring was purchased by a Hong Kong billionaire named Joseph Lau, who also purchased a blue diamond that auctioned for $48.46 million. In both cases, he named the jewels for his 7 year old daughter. I can only imagine what he’ll do for her sweet 16!

Okay darlings, my pocket book is starting to hurt just imagining buying these pieces. Take care and stay shiny!
